Disaster Planning and Emergency Preparedness

  • Advancing Emergency Preparedness for Culturally Diverse Communities:  Serves as a central clearinghouse of resources and information to facilitate communication, networking and collaboration to improve preparedness, build resilience and eliminate disparities for culturally diverse communities across all phases of an emergency.
  • American Red Cross:  Emergency response organization offering neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, and aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Also offers compassionate services in community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs.
  • Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)Educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. 
  • Prepare Ohio:  Emergency preparedness for Ohio hospitals and health care systems.
  • FEMA: Official website of Department of Homeland Security.
  • CDC: Provides information on floods and what should be done to be prepared in the event of a flood.


  • Alliance of Ohio Trauma Registrars: The AOTR provides assistance to registrars in their professional development; promotes research and education in the trauma registry field.
  • American College of Surgeons:  Dedicated to improving the care of the surgical patient and to safeguarding standards of care in an optimal and ethical practice environment.
  • American Trauma Society:  Dedicated to the prevention of trauma and improvement of trauma care.
  • Association for the Advancement of Medicine Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS): AIS incorporates current medical terminology providing an internationally accepted tool for ranking injury.  
  • Emergency Nurses Association: The mission is to advocate for patient safety and excellence in emergency nursing practice.
  • Ohio Society of Trauma Nurse Leaders:The OSTNL advocates for quality trauma care and injury prevention. The OSTNL shall serve as a primary resource to professionals and the public regarding hospital-based trauma programs and organized trauma systems
  • Pediatric Trauma Society: The mission of the PTS is improving pediatric trauma outcomes.
  • Society of Trauma Nurses:The Society of Trauma Nurses is a professional nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure optimal trauma care to all people locally, regionally, nationally and globally through initiatives focused on trauma nurses related to prevention, education and collaboration with other healthcare disciplines.

  • Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality:  Improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans.
  • Columbus Public Health: The mission is to protect health and improve the lives in our community. 
  • Franklin County Public Health: The mission is to improve the health of our communities by preventing disease, promoting healthy living and protecting against public health threats through education, policies, programs and partnerships.
  • Ohio Injury Prevention Partnership (OIPP): A statewide group of professionals representing a broad range of agencies and organizations concerned with building Ohio's capacity to address the prevention of injury.
